What is an organic/natural bug repellent for my garden?

I don't want to put 7 dust because I am trying grow tomatos and peppers and herbsWhat is an organic/natural bug repellent for my garden?
We always planted marigolds here and there in the garden. It acts as a natural bug repellent and they add color to the garden as well.

Here is a list of some other plants and some of the bugs they keep away.

You can spray a solution of Citronella oil and water on your flowers. I haven't heard of anyone's flowers and plants dying from it but it does stink!! It is a natural bug and insect repellent and can be sprayed outside on walls too, near the door, to stop them coming in the house....as I said though..if the wind is in the wrong direction.....

Don't spray tomatoes and peppers and herbs directly...just the soil around them but not too near the root.

Hope that helps.
What type of bugs do you have? That will sway my answer strongly! Slugs/snails I'd go out there at night and pick 'em off. I've had surprisingly good results with that. You can also use diatomaceous earth which is essentially silica (glass) and cuts the bugs up as they crawl across it. Nasty. It is harmless to us mostly unless you inhale a bunch of it, and you do have to reapply if you get it wet.

This is a great site and deals with all sorts of management techniques, not just chemicals. It is geared towards Californians though...

Plant marigold, garlic, spearmint as companion plants to repel insects. Use cedar or eucalyptus bark chips as mulch.
one of the safest things is simply a soap n water solution. i use it on houseplants
