Has anyone used ammonia as an insect repellent?

I recently talked to someone who said they spray ammonia (50/50 mix with water) around doors, windows, on decks, around the bottom of walls and on fences. They said they have no trouble with mosquitos, ants, blackflies, moths, spiders and even dogs. Has anyone had any experience with this?Has anyone used ammonia as an insect repellent?
When I was a kid, we would put ammonia in our squirt guns to repel vicious dogs. There was no leash law then and there was many instances of kids getting attacked by dog packs. The ammonia did work.

To repel mosquitoes, plant geraniums. They just don't like them.

Ants won't cross a chalk line.

Ive never heard of ammonia being used for those other things. These days, I only use it for cleaning.
