(Not too expensive- under $20)Do you have a recipe for homemade cat repellent?
I have the best repellent advice money can buy an I'll do you one better it's under $5. Go to the beauty aisle of your local drugstore/walmart. And pick up a small squirt bottle. Buy it bring it home fill it half way with water. Next time your cat starts messing with the couch give it a little squirt just enough to startle the cat. Do this a few times more and the cat will get the hint and leave your couch alone.Do you have a recipe for homemade cat repellent?
You can buy bitter apple spray at a pet supply store for well under $20. Lemon juice diluted with water will sometimes work too, as they don't care for citrus scents. You can also get Sticky Paws from a pet supply for under $20. It's basically double sided tape sheets that you place where you don't want them to scratch or chew. They don't like the sticky surface and it discourages them. You can sometimes accomplish the same thing by placing aluminum foil or bubble wrap over the area. They don't care for the texture. Placing a cardboard scratcher near the area and sprinkling it with catnip will sometimes become more appealing than the furniture. Every cat is different and it's usually a matter of trial and error to find out what works best.

Edit - The spray bottle method recommended works well if you're there and can be used in conjunction with a repellent. A determined cat will still misbehave when you're not looking, so it's best to use the spray bottle only as a reinforcement when you're present. I wouldn't rely on it alone to do the trick.
something with Tapatio in it. you can up the ante by using habanero peppers. they use the root of these chiles to create pepper spray.

add a dash of worcestershire sauce and you're on your way!
Cats hate the smell of vinegar. Place a bowl or saucer of vinegar around and under the couch and the cat will leave it alone.
