Should I put insect repellent on my Chinese Crested this summer?

I know I'm suppose to use sunscreen on her, but what about bug spray? Will her monthly heartworm pill protect her?Should I put insect repellent on my Chinese Crested this summer?
Find a natural insect repellant. I don't think the heartworm pill will protect her. Try something with mint and cloves in it. I can't find the web site of the one I recommend. Bummer.

here's some web sites:

Put some citronella on a collar for her/him

Couldn't you have gotten a real dog with hair? JK!Should I put insect repellent on my Chinese Crested this summer?
Hairless have sensitive skin and I have heard of many of them having severe reactions to topical treatments (drops on the back of the neck) such as frontline. They actually get what look like severe chemical burns. Any bug reppellant for humans is a no no. Call and ask your vet, also check out message boards and sites for the breed. Other crested owners will be only too glad to tell you what they use. You could also call the breeder you got the pup from(if that is where you got her)
Nothing will protect her from being poisoned by bug spray! 0_o;

Please use a pet-safe preventative that isn't ';bottom shelf';, if you know what I mean. Try frontline plus, or another premium brand. Anything that you don't frown at the price is a ripoff and possibly dangerous to your pet.
The heartworm pill will protect her. Don't spray or use chemicals she could have a bad allergic reaction not just her skin but the fumes could cause anaphaliactic (spelling?) shock we had it happen to one of our shi tzu's it was really bad.

BTW, very cool dogs I love that breed.

I suspect they had Chinese Cresteds in mind when these were designed.
Depends on what brand of heartworming medication you use. I use one that takes care of fleas, ticks, mites, mosquitoes, flies and all worms. They don't all do that though.

I would consult your vet and have them tell you what products are ok to use on your dog.
use only products that are meant to be used on dogs. Anything else may cause skin reactions or irritations or she may lick it off and it could make her sick.

Avoid using scented products.. as those will attract more bugs. Light clothing will help protect from insects as well.
Make sure that the insect repellent you use is made specifically for dogs. Petco sells one, it called Fly Off. I work there and we sell a lot of it, so it must be a good product.
Well, to quote my hero, John Belushi (may he rest in peace)....

';BUUUUUURP, WHY NOT!!!!!';
Heart guard protects against heart worms which is carried by mosquitoes. Do not use any type of human insect repellent without checking with your vet first.
