Can anyone recommend a safe insect repellent or other remedy I can put on my 19 month old at night?

My son is waking up every morning with more and more (pretty sure they are mosquitoes) bites. I have ordered a mosquito net for his crib, however I was wondering if there was something I could apply in the interim. He is getting them all over his body. I read online that keeping a fan on him would help, but he is still getting bit. I hate the way they look and I am sure they are very uncomfortable. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Can anyone recommend a safe insect repellent or other remedy I can put on my 19 month old at night?
I always have a supply of Avon's Skin So Soft this time of year. It's the only thing that I have found that keeps the mosquitoes away and doesn't irritate my child's skin. I've been using it on her since she was 18 months. In the meantime, get some 1% hydrocortizone cream for the bug bites he already has. That is what our doctor always said we should use, my daughter gets terrible welts from the bites, and the cream really cuts down on the itching and makes them fade a little faster. Can anyone recommend a safe insect repellent or other remedy I can put on my 19 month old at night?
You can get him some OFF! for kids. It's in a spray bottle with a pink lid, and it doesn't have a strong a smell as the adult version.
Have U considered not using any ';insect repellent'; BUT a MOSQUITO/INSECT NETTING over your childs bed?

Netting is neat %26amp; nice to look at if U think it is not cumbersome. U can buy this netting from any textile shop that sells wedding materials or a mall shop that stocks up such at the baby section.

Avoid using any insect repellent %26amp; save the cost of allergy,,,in case your child skin has after using this ';product';.

Every evening about 1-2 hours before U put baby to bed, U spray the room with a aerosol insect spray %26amp; shut the room door. Just before U bring baby into room U have the fan or a/c on %26amp; after 15 minutes U can take kid to sleep.

This is the best way to protect your child without using any of the chemicals so best is to get a mosquito netting %26amp; the frame of the netting is above the bed like how a 4 poster bed is or U can hang the rectangular frame from ceiling , then the netting can be sewn %26amp; drawn like curtains %26amp; over lap at entrance of bed. U can have frills over the top %26amp; drapping over at least 6 inches for frills,
Ask your doctor what you can use.
you can give him a bath with skin so soft Avon sells it ,it worth a try ,they also have sss wipes, but they do have special i nsectrepellent for small children, get at drug store.my grandchildren use it.GOOD LUCK
California Baby has a great all natural mosquito repellent. It has citronella and lemon grass in it. You can get it online at CaliforniaBaby.com And, why is he getting bit in the house? Do you leave windows open?
I bought some citronella spray from the health food store. Don't let him breathe it in or get it in his eyes (you already knew that), but it works pretty well.

If he's really miserable, you can give him some allergy medicine.
Someone already mentioned citronella spray, but you can actually buy a citronella plant. It is a pretty thing, has a nice smell and if you keep it in the area of the crib, it will repel the mosquitoes, etc.

Afterthought: Do you have pets? Any possibility these could be flea bites?
I dont know for sure of a specific product but if you go to any health food store or farmers market tehy should have a good selection for you to choose from. Just be careful to read the ingredients to make sure there are no chemicals in it..Kudos to you for wanting a natural product for your lil one! Good luck to you :)
There is a product by Avon called Skin so soft, (the blue, older version,) and this has been hailed as a wonder remedy. It's usually used as a lotion to be worn after having a bath, however, more and more women were saying that they just didn't get bitten when they wore it so much so that it has appeared in many health magazines as a repellant.

I think Avon tried to bring out a sensative skin version for this reason, (so it wasn't perfumed, etc), but this failed miserabley. It was the original which put the mozzys off. I used it on my kids and although one was prone to sensitive skin issues it kept the nasy mozzy bites away and this ruled out any other issues.

Avon do still sell it - please note though that it is only the dry oil and not the other creams, gels, etc in the range.
I use Burts Bees on my daughter and myself. It's safe and it works!
a fine mosquito net should be good enough.. do not risk insect repellents..
